Sandman

I know that this topic has been discussed in the Graphic Novels forum, but to what extent I know not, or am willing to dig through it. But I must say, this comic is amazing. It is so good. The character's, plots, themes are just incredible. My brother, who is kind of an artist has gotten back into comics, but downloads them onto his computer, and saved them to discs which he lent to me. So I have every Sandman comic. I have only read the first two chapters, (which are composed of around 16 or something comics).

Not only do I have these I have but I also have about 100 Cerebus comics, 1-50 Groo, The Maxx, Savage Dragon, and Image Packs. Not only this my brother lent me his The Dark Night Returns (which was excellent), and I am now trying to figure out where I put my Grendel Warchild, or to whom I lent it to.

It feels good to have good comics.

Re: Sandman

I pretty much enjoyed Sandman, too - great characters and challenging stories.

Season of Mists is a personal favourite - which for those who don't know: Lucifer decides he's bored of being the lord of Hell, empties it of troubled souls, and then goes walkabout. A pair of angels are sent to administrate what's left, whilst a great variety of gods from other mythologies decide Hell could make a pretty good Freehold and start vying for possession of it. Wrap that in a somewhat gothic atmosphere and - tra la! - Season of Mists.

Title is from a poem by Keats, btw.

Actually got a little bored of the series towards the end - there was something about it that seemed a little forced, and I didn;t at all care for the last major story arc (when Puck and Loki get together to force the death of the Sandman by the Fates - there was something forced and meaningless about the storyline).

Overall, pretty great - some interesting challenges about sexuality - and a great set of core characters. Delirium was always my fave.

Re: Sandman

You are right Brian, I am a bit dissatisfied with the ending. Deep down I always crave a happy ending.

Re: Sandman

There's another version of the sandman story released by Gaiman. It's an adaptation of a Japanese folk story about two spirits -- the badger and the fox -- and their quest to wrest the temple from a monk.

It's a very sad and addictive tale, and the artwork is worthy of exhibition!

Re: Sandman

i loved the sandman. the ending made me cry but it made sense. i dont like happy endings that are tacked on and to be honest, how else could the series end? without something permenant there would have always been the option for me.
and i found the new sandman more attractive. white works for me
my fav was the dolls house.
